There is very little information about bicycle racing in Bacup. The Burnley Express and Advertiser of 29th August 1885 gives the results of Beaconsfield Cricket Club, Stacksteads (near Bacup). Attendance was reported as good, the events were all athletics apart from a 2 miles bicycle handicap race won by S Worthington from Oldham in 9 min 26 sec.
The Cyclist Christmas Number 1886-1887 also shows a result for Stacksteads (Beaconsfield CC) at the football ground, on 24th June 1886 and the one mile handicap bicycle race was won by JS Cordingley off scratch.
